i've been lurking on weebcentral for a while, mainly cuz who pays for manga lol site blew up after comick died has: general-chat, user walls, chapter comments + a basic notification system community kept asking for more social features, NepNep said no

caught his ass in 4k - where are the features nep lol

anyway decided to do it - it's a simple project to do and hey... i'll get the data to study user behaviors - so win win

1. DATA HEIST

nep uses htmx - based. probably rust/go backend on a good box easy to scrape, no js bloat wrote the scraper in go - goroutines go brrr ran it a couple days (throttled for rate limits), grabbed:

• all general-chat
• top subscribed manga chapter comments
• user walls from both passes

~=20 users got dropped due to a race condition in my sloppy code. rip them sorry for the load nep ♥️

social interactions (general-chat + user walls) by quarter:

some people are here to talk more than read lol overall: 10.9% of users (3560/32759) are "social-first"

scraped only top 10k subbed manga so chapter numbers are probably low

quick svelte + d3 app - user activity, taste, personality, meme stats hosted on cloudflare cuz free

the reze animation ate most of my time

text wraps around her silhouette using chenglou's pretext.js for pixel-accurate text measurement you can drag her around too posted it on weebcentral - pinned by admin, thought he'd ban me lol shoutout butter-kun, pokiebear, astrozka - nobody clicked until they vouched n shared ♥️

everything till now ~= 8-9 hours of continuous work

4. MY EVIL PLAN TO CONQUER THE WORLD

added a /lore page today - tracks + summarizes community events real talk tho: piracy sites always die. community grows, dev adds features, lawyers show up, site dies, users scatter. no moat in illegal stuff the only play i see: decouple the community from the site basically disqus(https://disqus.com) but for manga/anime communities

users post on WeebSocial any piracy site (or any site really) can embed our comments, walls, general chat via sdk users oauth2 into our platform once, comment everywhere it's integrated when a site dies, community doesn't

new sites get comments out of the box instead of launching empty. community stays alive and centralized but platform-agnostic moderation + engineering problems exist but they're solvable

might build this, might not - got a bigger problem i'm trying to solve rn. if that falls through, i'm back no new features for a bit except weekly stat + lore updates, those are easy reply with thoughts on weebcentral - see ya
