She never wanted space, she's a spoiled brat who thought that throwing a tantrum, gaslighting him into thinking everything was his fault, and basically holding herself for ransom would make him give up everything and make her the most important thing in his life. He interpreted her 'leaving' as the opposite though, that her leaving in the future was always going to happen so if it has to happen now then he has to learn to stand on his own two feet asap; she never expected him to have that kind of resolve and her ego was so big that she couldn't see past her own importance.
